Check a photo against the requirements you were given
A file may meet a KB limit and still have the wrong dimensions or format. This checker reads the selected image’s actual byte size, decoded pixel dimensions and file format, then compares those properties with your entries. It does not resize the image or upload it for analysis. Use the current destination’s instructions, rather than treating the example settings as an official specification.
- Choose the original image and review its displayed properties.
- Enter any minimum and maximum file sizes. Select KB or MB and the appropriate byte convention.
- Enter an exact width and height only when the destination specifies them, then choose its accepted formats.
- Run the check. Read each pass, mismatch or unspecified result before submitting the file elsewhere.
For an illustrative 100 KB JPG requirement at 400 × 500 pixels, select JPG and enter both dimensions. A PNG at those dimensions will fail the format check even if its size is acceptable. A smaller JPG can fail the minimum size. Each result explains the property to revisit, so you can adjust the relevant setting in the image resizer.
What the checker cannot certify
A technical match does not evaluate identity, background, head position, lighting, signature legibility, photograph recency or live capture. A receiving website may enforce additional rules or use a different size convention. Check its own preview and confirmation. Keep your original and consult the document preparation guide when instructions are unclear.
Format detection uses the file’s header rather than trusting its extension alone. The browser must also successfully decode the image. The checker accepts common raster formats and excludes PDF, HEIC and SVG. Animated GIF dimensions describe the decoded image, not whether a form allows animation.
Privacy and limits
Selected files are read and processed locally in your browser. They are not sent to our servers by these tools. The workspace is temporary; refreshing, closing the tab or clearing files removes the current work. Website delivery and optional analytics are separate and explained in the Privacy Policy. Download anything you want to keep before changing a privacy choice that reloads the page.
Common questions
Does a pass guarantee that a form will accept my photo?
No. A pass covers only the file size, dimensions and formats you entered. It does not check background, identity, lighting, recency, live capture or an authority’s other photo rules.
Will checking change my image?
No. The checker reads the original file and displays its properties. Use the image resizer separately if you need to change size, dimensions or format.
Why can the same file show different KB values elsewhere?
This tool uses 1,024 bytes per KB and 1,048,576 bytes per MB. Some destinations use decimal units. Select the unit convention that matches your instructions and check exact bytes near a boundary.
