What to check
- File size
- 100 KB requested maximum
- Dimensions
- 500 × 500 pixels — illustrative starting frame
- Format
- JPG / PNG / WebP
Actual size and quality depend on your image. Settings do not certify acceptance by another service.
How to use this guidance
- 01
Choose a portrait or logo
Start from the original and decide which edges must remain visible in a square frame.
- 02
Compare crop and padding
Use the 500 × 500 starting frame or your own dimensions. Fit & Pad and Cover / Crop produce different results.
- 03
Check the app preview
Download the new file, open it in the profile editor and inspect its final framing before saving there.
This tool's profile preset starts with a 500 × 500 pixel square JPG and a 100 KB requested maximum. These are our illustrative preparation settings, not a claim about WhatsApp's current minimum dimensions or upload limit. Change them to suit your source and check the result in the application's own profile editor.
A rectangular source cannot fill a square without either cropping, padding or distortion. Cover / Crop fills the frame but can remove the edges. Fit & Pad keeps the whole source inside a square and adds space around it. Stretch changes proportions. Compare the options rather than relying on a promise that every picture will appear in full.
For a portrait, place the face comfortably inside the central area and inspect the app's final display. For a logo or writing, allow room around important edges and check readability at a small size. The tool does not control how an app masks or displays your uploaded profile image, so its square preview is only one part of the check.
Download a separate copy and select that file in the profile editor. If an app changes the picture after upload, inspect its preview before saving there. Keep the original so you can choose different framing later. JPEG compression may reduce detail; a small file is useful only when the person or logo remains recognizable.
Common questions
Does a target guarantee an exact file size?
No. The target is a requested maximum. Inspect the actual bytes, dimensions and visual quality; a very small target can remain unmet.
Will compression keep every detail?
JPEG and WebP can lose detail. PNG uses lossless encoding, but resizing changes pixels. Keep your original and compare the preview.
Does this tool set print DPI metadata?
DPI converts centimeters or inches to pixels. This browser export does not write your chosen print-DPI tag. Check pixel dimensions and use print software for physical print settings.
